Thermal Flow Sensors
Thermal dispersion (mass) flow meters use heat to measure the flow. Thermal flow meters have two sensors immersed in the fluid flow: a "Temperature Sensor" which measures the actual temperature in the tube as a reference, regardless of the flow rate, and a heated sensor, called a "Speed Sensor". The speed sensor is continuously heated to a fixed temperature value by an electrical wattage. As the fluid flow begins, heat is extracted from the heated speed sensor via molecules that pass. The heat that is spread is drained by the stream. The corresponding cooling effect is measured immediately and compensated by high-quality sensor drive electronics, which adds more heating current to maintain a constant temperature difference of 50 °C.
