Ultrasonic Flow Meters

The ultrasonic flow meter is based on ultrasound sound waves. An ultrasonic flow meter measures the difference in duration of ultrasonic pulses in a flowing medium. The time difference is a measure of the average velocity of the liquid along the path of the ultrasonic beam. By accurately measuring the time difference between the values, the flow rate and sound velocity can be calculated. Ultrasonic flow meters are suitable for large and small diameter tubes with higher flow ranges.

Doppler Principle:
Another method of an ultrasonic flow meter, which is not suitable for very low flow rates, is the use of the Doppler flow meter. Operation is based on reflection of an ultrasonic beam of acoustically reflective material, color: such as solid particles, air bubbles, turbulence in a flowing fluid.
